Improving Mathematics Education for All Learners
Improving Mathematics Education for All Learners
Profile
I became an independent consultant in January 2016. I worked for Bradford Council as a senior mathematics consultant for 12 years, working in challenging inner-city schools in varying roles, including lead practitioner and curriculum coordinator, coaching teachers and middle leaders.
I have contributed significantly to raising educational standards, working at a strategic level to form policy with SLT across schools and developing and delivering whole staff – departmental and middle leaders training. I have had successful experiences in leading, managing and motivating professionals so that improvement is realised in student outcomes.
I enjoy sharing my passion and enthusiasm with students and teachers at all levels. I deliver training events to inspire ITT students, HLTA or TA and non-specialists, sharing the power of mathematics in the real world.
As an Assistant Area Coordinator for the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme, I work with schools and colleges to support and promote the study of AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, arrange Further Mathematics tuition for students when their schools and colleges cannot provide it themselves. I provide training and support to teachers of AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and KS4 Higher Tier Mathematics. I also support the development of Higher Level Problem Solving skills including support for teachers, helping students prepare for STEP, AEA and MAT examinations. I also collaborate with local Maths Hubs, Teaching Schools, NCETM and the STEM centre in York in providing professional development for teachers.
I was a Mathematics Lead Practitioner & Adviser for TRACKS Education, providing continuity in learning and personalised education for students with health needs.
I was a member of the National Strategy Mathematics Pedagogy Research Group, designed to support the development of student mathematics learning, which was distributed to all of England’s maintained schools. I also attained professional accreditation from the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).
For two years, I was involved with the highly acclaimed Cre8ate Maths project, developing problem-solving resources for schools, which related to the twelve major employment sectors in Yorkshire.
I am also a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and have been awarded the designation of “Chartered Mathematics Teacher”. Moreover, I have audited BBC Class Clips in Manchester, where I discussed programme concepts and produced script material for the company. I was also trained as a mathematics consultant by the National Strategies, focusing on pedagogy, curriculum development and assessment.

“The universe cannot be read until we have learnt the language and become familiar with the characters in which it is written. It is written in mathematical language, and the letters are triangles, circles, and other geometrical figures, without which means, it is humanly impossible to comprehend a single word.” – Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642)
